Graduate Borrowing @ MSU and Elsewhere

Michigan State University

Graduate students may use their MSUid to check books out of the MSU Libraries. The loan period for most books is 180 days, but books can be recalled at any time by another MSU student, faculty or staff person. See Main Library Loan Periods for additional details and exceptions. Branch libraries and the MSU Law Library also allow borrowing by graduate students, but loan rules and periods vary: ask at the circulation desk at each branch for more information.

University of Michigan, Wayne State University

MSU Graduate students may apply for borrowing privileges at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University through the Michigan Research Libraries Triangle. This allows you to travel to Wayne State or the University of Michigan and check books out directly from their libraries. To register for these privileges, please apply at the Main Library Circulation Desk.

Big Ten/CIC and other universities

MSU Graduate students may also apply for borrowing privileges at most Big Ten/CIC Universities and selected other universities through a national reciprocal borrowing program. If you are planning to spend an extended period of time near another university and would like to borrow materials from them directly, please visit the circulation desk in the MSU Main Library to apply for privileges and to see the list of qualifying universities.

Not able to travel, but need books or other materials?

Please use InterLibrary Services to request books, dissertations, and other material that are available at other university libraries.
