On March 16, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an Executive Order temporarily closing many public spaces. All academic libraries are included in this order. The Main Library is closed, but we still offer virtual services and many resources do remain available. Please see our Online and Distance Learning resource page for specific Library resources. Reference services are still available via chat and phone. We do have temporary policies for returning/renewing material.

Food & Drink in the Main Library

Library patrons are encouraged to consume food and beverages in the CyberCafe. Patrons who bring their lunches are encouraged to eat them in the CyberCafe. Food may not be ordered for delivery to the library.

Patrons are encouraged to use spill-resistant beverage containers in the Main Library. No food or drink in any container is permitted in the Map Library or Special Collections.

Examples of preferred beverage containers:

  • library cafe or coffee shop-type travel mugs
  • sport bottles
  • straw-equipped bottles
  • pop/soda bottles with sport bottle-type pop tops
  • thermos bottles with spill-resistant, closable spouts

Spills should be reported immediately to the nearest service desk so they can be cleaned up quickly to avoid permanent damage.

Library users may be asked to remove food or beverage containers if judged by library staff to pose an imminent threat to library furnishing, equipment, or material. If users refuse to cooperate, assistance will be requested from the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety.
