Reimagining MSU Libraries: Summer Construction Update
Last fall we sent out a campus survey to help us assess the needs of our community as we look to reimagine our spaces and services in partnership with brightspot strategy. Construction is set to begin this summer, and we are excited to share some key updates and timelines with you as we move toward making our spaces more responsive to the current and future needs of our students, faculty and staff.
- The Starbucks project will begin construction officially on May 15. The new Starbucks space will be in the former Sparty’s Café area, which closed on May 5. Vending machines will remain in the space over the summer, with plans for Starbucks to open in August. Mobile ordering will be available, and the microwaves and vending machines in the area will remain in place. In addition, MSU plans to install a Farmer’s Fridge alongside our current vending options to supplement healthy food offerings.
- The Children’s Nook is temporarily closed for the Starbuck’s construction. Future plans will be shared once they are in final form.
-
Construction on the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation will also begin May 15. Our Facilities team has been steadily moving furniture from the 2-West space over the spring semester in anticipation of work starting this summer. The area is scheduled to be completed in August.
- This work will also cause the Nursing Mother's Room on 2-West to be unavailable until early-mid June. We apologize for the inconvenience. To find other nearby rooms for nursing mothers visit https://worklife.msu.edu/parenting/lactation/.
We are looking forward to a busy, noisy summer, but most importantly to some amazing transformations of our spaces! As always, we are available at our information desks as well as by phone at (517) 353-8700.
