Main Library Building Accessibility
Parking & Transportation
Accessible parking is located on the east side of the Main Library, and at the South (back) entrance.
The Capital Area Transit Authority (CATA) offers transportation services for Michigan State University's campus, and the surrounding area. Spec-Tran is CATA’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) complementary paratransit service for people unable to use CATA’s fixed-route system.

Building Entrances
Universal entry to the Main Library is provided via a ramp at the South (back) entrance, with power-assisted doors. Power-assisted doors are also available at the North entrance off of West Circle Drive.
Elevators
Elevators in both the East and West wings provide access to all floors of the Main Library. All elevators have Braille and tactile numbering and lettering both outside and inside each elevator.
Accessible Restrooms
- 2-East features three gender neutral, accessible restrooms. Two have grab bars for a left transfer, one for a right transfer. These are our largest, most accessible restrooms.
- 4-West restroom near the Music Library (after exiting the main elevator on 4-W, take two right turns). Fully wheelchair accessible. Men's room has grab bars for right transfer, Women's room has grab bars for left transfer.
- 1-West restroom across from Starbucks. Stalls with grab bars are not fully wheelchair accessible. Automatic doors.
Accessible Drinking Fountains
- 1-West across from Starbucks. Includes bottle filling station.
- 2-West across from Digital Scholarship Lab. Includes bottle filling station.
- 4-West by near the Green Room. Includes bottle filling station.
Service Animals
Working service animals as described in MSU's Service Animal Policy are welcome at the MSU Libraries.
Assistive Technology & Equipment
Assistive Technology Center (ATC)

Assistive Technology - Business Library
A CCTV magnifier (Aladdin Rainbow RB-1) is available in the Business Library.
Headphones
Headphones are available for borrowing from the service desk in the Klein Digital Multimedia Center, Main Library, 4th Floor West.
Noise canceling headphones are available for borrowing from our Self-Care Lending Library at the MakeCentral Service Desk, Main Library, 2nd Floor West.
Light Therapy Lamps
Light therapy lamps are available for borrowing from our Self-Care Lending Library at the MakeCentral Service Desk, Main Library, 2nd Floor West.
Motorized Cart & Shopping Carts
The Main Library has an Amigo motorized cart to help patrons move throughout the building. Please ask at the Circulation Desk (between library entrances on first floor) about checking out the motorized cart for the 2 hour borrowing period, or call (517) 353-8700 for more information.
Small shopping carts are available for one-day use. Please ask at the Circulation Desk (between library entrances on first floor) to borrow a shopping cart, or call (517) 353-8700 for more information.
Tactile Maps
The Map Library, located in the Main Library on 2nd Floor East, has a collection of several dozen tactile maps – primarily state maps and world continents. For assistance, ask at the Map Library Desk.
Lockers
In the Main Library, lockers (for storage of personal belongings and checked-out library material) may be reserved by undergraduates for one semester, and graduate students for one year. One day lockers and padlocks are also available. Please ask at the Circulation Desk (between library entrances on first floor) or call (517) 353-8700.
Read Aloud & Quiet Study Space
In the Main Library, you may read aloud in the Assistive Technology Center, group study rooms, or the Collaborative Technology Labs.
The entire East wing of the Main Library is designated as quiet study space. The Assistive Technology Center, group study rooms, or Collaborative Technology Labs are also options.
