Map Library Technology Services

The Map Library unit is providing remote service during the Fall 2020 semester, so our equipment is temporarily unavailable. The Library's Digital Scholarship Lab is equipped with excellent computing resources and will be accessible via appointment.  We also welcome your questions via email; we may be able to guide you to software resources or resolve questions you might have about using GIS software.

Please visit the Internet and Wireless page for more information about wireless access in the MSU Libraries for information about wireless access.

The Main Library's computers have several printing options including black & white, color, and color plotting on 36" wide paper. Library visitors may choose to print to MSU Print printers (letter and ledger size only), or send their prints to Hollander MakeCentral on 2-west and pay by cash, check, charge, or to a university account.  Printing costs are the same as in other computer labs. For more information about printing services in the MSU Libraries, see the MSU Print FAQ page.

The Map Library has a black & white photocopier that can make copies up to 11" x 17" in size. Photocopies cost $0.10 per sheet. The machine takes dollar bills, coins, and library copy cards. Hollander MakeCentral on 2-West has a color copier that will make copies up to 11" x 17" in size. Most Map Library items can be checked out for in-building use for viewing or to take items to Hollander MakeCentral.

The Map Library has a flatbed scanner and a large rolling scanner. Flatbed scans cost $0.05 each, payable in cash. The rolling scanner can take items up to 42" wide and can scan optically up to 508 ppi (higher with interpolation). Roll scans cost $1 each. Please bring a USB drive for saving your files. Media are also available for purchase in Hollander MakeCentral. Library users with a MSU NetID may carry images to a Full Set of Applications computer nearby for further editing and use. More self-serve copying and scanning options are available in Hollander MakeCentral. Please refer to Scanning Options at the MSU Libraries (pdf) for a complete list of scanning options.
