Pages on one continuous strip folded accordion style. These dunes are located in the Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area near Coos Bay. The font is named appropriately Sand. Typescript with manuscript titles mimeographed on individual leaves of coarse, light brown paper; black tissue-paper endpapers. Decorative initials and some titles are mimeographed on mounted brown and purplish blue paper cutouts. Stapled at left margin, glued and tied with black-and-blue cord to coarse, purplish blue paper wrappers. A photocopied group photograph is mounted on front endpaper, with one portrait (Octavio Smith?) showing through a cutout on front wrapper. Wrappers have decorated (mimeographed) paper collages. Part of a collection of handmade books, most with cords for hanging (literatura de cordel), published by Ediciones Vigía under the auspices of the Cuban Ministry of Culture. Limited ed. of 100 copies. Letterpress printed on Magnani Pescia & Crescent papers in Cochin bold italic. Designed and engineered by Elizabeth McDevitt and Julie Chen ... The boxes were made by Sandy Tilcock --Colophon. Tunnel book with poem accumulating on every other leaf. When compressed the entire poem is readable. Poem in total on leaf [13]. Issued in drop-spine box. Colophon inside the box is printed in the shape of an octopus. The concertinas of the tunnel structure are printed to resemble fish net. Each leaf of the book has overall printed pattern. Leaves [11-13] have printed paper collage of an octopus's tentacle. End boards are cloth covered. |

| On this land : poem |
Limited ed. of 125 copies, signed by the poet and artist. On This Land was produced during the winter of 1996 at the artist's own Blue Heron Press. Each reduction woodcut image was printed in 5 runs from two basswood blocks by the artist and Nancy Palmeri. The typeface is Baskerville in 14 points. The paper is mouldmade Nideggen and the cover is handmade red flax paper stained with walnut. This edition of 125 copies was created for and supported by the Library Fellows of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.--Colophon.
