A three-dimensional 19th-century desk with drop down writing panel and pull out drawers, with Victorian decor such as peacock feathers, a Japanese fan, and a gas lamp. Includes an 8-page miniature accordion book. Materials: Bockingford-cream watercolor paper 140 lb., Cranes natural white paper 140lb; Biscotti-colored archival mat board; casein archival fixative. Processes: Gocco and digital printing. Watercolor. Housed in a hardbound 9 x 11 x 2.5; clamshell case covered in hand-painted Japanese silk book cloth. (From dealer's website.) Perhaps like many people, we tended to connect the Women's Suffrage Movement with images of early 20th-century parades and pickets. However, a chance encounter with a wonderful little book, Women of the Suffrage Movement by Janice E. Ruth & Evelyn Sinclair ..., reminded us of the pre-Civil War beginnings of the campaign and the remarkable women who supported it.
