Eugenie Torgerson is a book artist, photographer, printer, and illustrator from Michigan. Map Room Box and Journals is a lidded box containing 5 handbound journals. The sides of the box and the journals contain digitally-manipulated landscape photos with maps superimposed. The artist states: I draw simple places and ordinary experiences of light and weather. I am interested in the energy of air and the weight of the land, paying particular attention to the places where they meet. The locations are derived from memory, shaped by invention, and the drawings are pages of a universal geography. |

This book has been crafted with particular care in each and every part by Alessandro Sartori and Fausto Olivieri under the trademark unaluna. The typesetting was done in monotype characters Centaur and printed on a planocylindrical printing press of Officina Olivieri of Milan on hand-made paper produced from natural cotton fibres of neutral pH manufactured by Cartiera de Sicilia of Catania. Embossing and other manual interventions are the work of Casare Spini, while Bottega del Legatore of Ancona manually bound each copy with first class hides. | Reliquiæ : an abecedarium of martyred female saints illustrated with VanDyke photographs of extinct animals |
Reliquiæ was letterpress-printed at Columbia College Chicago Center for Book & Paper Arts in the spring of 2005. The handmade paper is flax and hemp, internally sized and buffered. The font is 17th Century Print, a digital facsimile from a book printed in 1686. The VanDyke brown photographs were printed on handcoated Japanese Gampi paper using digital inkjet negatives. The binding is a modified Romanesque, sewn on cords and laced on quarter-sawn oak boards. There are 5 copies of Reliquiæ, of which this is number 5. One-of-a-kind artist's book made from a vintage accordion with the trade name Fratelli Giovanni, Torino, Accordion Italiana and in smaller letters, Made in Germany. The keys appear to be made from mother-of-pearl and the case has a floral design. The bellows have been slit open and fitted with sheets of paper carrying the book's content. This book was made by Peter & Donna Thomas in February of 2010. The images, collected over the years, were printed on Peter's handmade paper & hand-colored by Donna. The text was written by Peter, & hand-written in the accordion book by Donna. Before being purchased by the MSU Libraries, this book was exhibited at the Kalamazoo (Michigan) Book Arts Center in April 2010. |

| The peacock's complaint |
A color Xerox book of images and text chronicling a long lasting friendship. The title side of the fan has peacock feathers, the other side has the drawings and text. The fan is fully reversing and shows the two friends swapping roles with each other. | The pencil |
This book tells a short history of the pencil and displays vintage advertising pencils. The text was hand written and colored with pencil by Donna, then color copied on Peter's handmade paper. This book features a unique tri-fold binding, with the text hidden behind an inner cover. There is a display of 6 advertising pencils mounted in the center of the book in a dove tail jointed wooden holder made of pencil cedar. Donna executed the binding, with oasis goat leather spines and Peter's hand made paper that was printed with multiple-runs in multiple colors of in using antique wood type. -- Artists' website. Edition of 300 copies. Book enclosed in machine-sewn bubble wrap package, tied with brown ribbon yarn. Bound in green cloth with mixed media affixed to p. [1] of cover; closed with thread covered elastic band with sewn red leather pull. Four forty-page booklets sewn together + four 21 x 20 cm laminated sheets + 1 loose 27 x 21 cm laminated sheet + 1 loose 20 x 5 laminate sheet (bookmark). Lists the names, death dates, locations of graves, serial numbers and decorations of 5,328 American dead and missing World War II soldiers who are memorialized at the cemetery, one of fourteen such cemeteries in Europe. Photographs on loose laminated sheet document a related installation by the artist at Rockerill Marchienne au Pont, Charleroi, Belgium, February 2008. |

It was letterpress printed using a combination of photopolymer plates and collagraphic blocks on Wyndstone Marble papers, and cut using a Universal Systems Lasercutter. The binding was done by Julie Chen and Anna Sacramento at the studios of Flying Fish Press ... --Box lining paper. Produced in an edition of 100 copies, signed & numbered by the artist. This book can be displayed as a standing sculpture by curving the concertina into a circle, with all the pages facing outward, until the front and back covers touch. Ruth & Evelyn Sinclair ..., reminded us of the pre-Civil War beginnings of the campaign and the remarkable women who supported it. Fourteen visually talented students and their instructor wrote and produced this ... book printed by letterpress ... The front and back matter were fancifully set in 12 pt. Gill Sans. The opacity and printability of Softwight Somerset Book 175 gsm paper appealed to the students. Imagery emerged directly from the type cases rather than from our usual linoleum blocks. the evocative leaf between sections was chosen for its translucency and colorful visual qualities. It was made in the Philippines from finely spun fibers. The spine of the seventeen signatures exposes the copper-colored thread sewn over Tyvek-reinforced tapes attached to the black Japanese bookcloth cover. This is number 37 in an edition of 94 copies. --Colophon. Signed by the professor and her students. |
