Collaborative Technology Labs in the DMC
The Gerald M Kline Digital and Multimedia Center features some of the MSU Libraries’ Collaborative Technology Labs. These high-tech meeting rooms provide users with the space and technology for group study, discussion and project design. The rooms include microcomputer hardware and software and group presentation equipment, including a plasma TV and a whiteboard. The rooms may be checked out of the DMC service desk and both rooms (Plasma TV room and the Whiteboard room) are included in the Libraries’ CTL Reservation System.
Digital Repository
The MSU Libraries digital repository is a platform for providing access to unique digital collections managed by the library, such as: digitized books and newspapers, electronic theses and dissertations, images, and audio/video files. The digital repository runs on open-source software including Fedora, Islandora, and Drupal. Customized code is available from the MSU Libraries' GitHub account.
DMC Course Reserves
The Gerald M Kline Digital and Multimedia Center maintains a revolving set of course reserve materials, in electronic formats, placed by MSU faculty in support of scheduled courses. Items placed in this listening/viewing course reserve, are found in audio, video and computer software formats and are either supplementary materials assigned for class use or are actual audio or video recordings of current lectures. Materials may be pulled from the DMC Multimedia Collection for reserve or are brought in by faculty. All DMC course reserve materials are listed by course code and number in the MSU Libraries’ catalog. Materials are available for check out at the DMC service desk on 4 West of the Main Library and must be used on-site in the DMC Media Lab. Gaming Lab
The game labs are available for study and recreation alike! Console games—from our collection or yours—may be played by individuals or groups in our fully equipped gaming rooms. PC games from our collection may be played in the nearby PC Alcove. Devices include Nintendo 64, Nintendo Game Cube, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, Video Games/Software, Xbox, Xbox 360. Media Lab
The DMC Media Lab includes 46 deluxe user carrels, featuring a wide-array of media equipment for on-site use by the MSU community. Hardware offered includes PCs and Macs, audio and video playback equipment, and electric typewriters. The Lab carries media hardware to access all electronic formats offered as part of the DMC Multimedia Collection including, Betamax, VHS, and laserdisc video players. The DMC Media Lab is located near the Kline DMC service desk on 4 West of the Main Library.
Reference / Consulting
General user assistance and reference consulting services are available to MSU faculty, staff and students and others, in support of the DMC Multimedia Collection, the G. Robert Vincent Voice Library and all other DMC/VVL collections and services. DMC staff also provide information and advice on media hardware and software applications and purchases, media production projects, and audio, video and print digitization. Other Services
Production Scanning: The staff of the DMC provides expert scanning of photographs, manuscripts, text-based materials, and rare artifacts, using the latest hardware and software applications. Services are presently limited to MSUL projects.
The Gerald M Kline Digital and Multimedia Center is responsible for media presentation equipment, design and support throughout the MSU Libraries. These services include consultation on equipment purchase and hardware installation and the operation of public address systems, recordings studio facilities, within the Libraries.
