Book Design Workshops

Do you need to print a book for a class or personal use but don’t know where to start? Library staff offer free workshops providing an introduction to book design and library publishing services. At the workshop you will learn:

  • How the Espresso Book Machine works
  • File requirements for printing books
  • Copyright compliance for printing books
  • How to use Adobe InDesign or Microsoft Word to set up interior files
  • How to use Adobe InDesign or Microsoft PowerPoint to set up cover files
  • Design tools available in Adobe InDesign or Microsoft Word
  • What not to do when designing your book
  • How to submit files through MSU FileDepot

Participants will gain hands-on experience in the Red Cedar West Instruction Room located on the library's second floor in the west wing. Multiple workshops will be offered throughout the semester at the dates and times listed below. Can't make it to the workshop? Groups of five or more may request a workshop using either Adobe InDesign or Microsoft Word; please contact ebm@lib.msu.edu to check for availability and schedule a date and time for your workshop.
