Notice: Due to budget reductions, effective August 15, 2025, the MSU Libraries will no longer ship materials to addresses within a 50-mile radius of the MSU Main Library.  Faculty, staff, and students that live within 50 miles of the Main Library will need to pick up materials requested at the Main Library Circulation Desk, at the lockers in the north vestibule of the Main Library, or at the Gast Business Library.

Types of Treatments

As you look at the treatment pages, you will see examples of all the various types of techniques used to conserve these books. They range from the very simple to the extremely complex. A short description each major category is given, but detailed instructions are not; that is beyond the scope of this exhibit. However, the viewer will be able to appreciate the care and skill which goes into all conservation work, and that each book takes time to treat and each book is treated individually. What you see is the result of nearly two years of work. And please keep in mind this is only a small percentage of the books in the library which will some day need conservation work.
