Agriculture

Firmly rooted in Michigan State University's land-grant mission, the collection of agricultural works at Stephen O. Murray and Keelung Hong Special Collections contains hundreds of manuscripts and printed books dating from the 15th to the present. All aspects of farming and other agricultural pursuits are represented, from land management and the cultivation of crops to disease in cattle and hobby farming. There are dozens of farming handbooks from as far back as the 1500s, providing a glimpse into the evolution of agricultural practices over the centuries. The bulk of the collection is made up of items from Europe and North America, including some that are early printed editions of ancient Greek and Roman texts. There is significant overlap with our strong collections in horticulture, botany, zoology, and veterinary medicine.
