Beginning in early May, the Michigan State University Libraries will be moving to a new system, OpenAthens, for accessing online library resources from off-campus. This change affects how users sign in to journals, databases and other electronic resources.
Lakeshore Museum Center Receives Hackley & Hume Family Records from Michigan State University Libraries

Muskegon, MI: The Lakeshore Museum Center is proud to announce the addition of an extraordinary collection of Hackley & Hume family and business records to its permanent collection. Transferred from the Stephen O. Murray and Keelung Hong Special Collections at Michigan State University Libraries on May 11, 2026, the materials return to Muskegon more than fifty years after Hume's granddaughter, Jean Hume Browning, donated them to MSU in 1974.

Preserving Black History: MSU Celebrates Frederick Douglass’ Legacy with Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon

Michigan State University is celebrating the life and legacy of renowned 19th-century abolitionist Frederick Douglass and inviting the public to join the festivities for the annual Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon on Friday, Feb. 13, from noon to 3 p.m. The event will take place in the MSU Main Library’s Digital Scholarship Lab Classroom and Flex Space, with portions of the program streamed live on YouTube.
