Description
This is a handbill printed on one side only. It is a receipt [recipe] for making Dr. Cronk's Beer. It is a beer using sarsaparilla, wintergreen, and hemlock. Warren Cronk started making Dr. Cronk's Beer in NYC about 1839. During the time, Cronk was in Albany, NY he developed his sarsapilla and a business model of franchising the bottling works. The recipe was not to be written down but only given by word of mouth. The Temperance Movement was at its height during this time. Warren Cronk's "Sarsaparilla Beer" was said to be medicinal in nature and alcohol free. It is not known how this copy came to be written down.
