Description
The front cover begins at the top with red dots around circular portraits of Grant and Cleveland on a yellow panel. Below, the title "The Centaur Almanac And Cook Book" is written in red lettering against a black background. To the right of the title there is a cat tail on a red background. At the bottom, there is a drawn illustration of six naked children and a little girl with an umbrella romping across a yellow panel. The back cover features tree limbs on a mustard background with a black oval containing a statue of The Diver. Below, there is an orange block framed with black and white Victorian patterns plus black, white and red lines. The front end page is made up of a calendar and an advertisement for Castoria. The rest of the inside pages are dedicated to calendar pages and informational pages. Each calendar page is a different month for the year 1886. The informational pages discuss topics such including the child, medicines, Zymel removes, symptoms of catarrh, poisoning children, and cooking receipts. The cooking receipts fall under the categories of soups, sauces, salads, meats, vegetables, breads, biscuits, eggs, pies, cakes, pickles, and jellies. Each receipt entails a list of the ingredients needed plus detailed directions on how to prepare the dish. The back end page is titled "Not a Secret Remedy" and contains a couple paragraphs written by H.S. Flint.
