Description

The top half of the front cover has a red background with the title in white. The middle is white with a black-and-white drawing of a mixing bowl and spoon, sifter, measuring cup, knife and a can. At the bottom is "Recipes In Tune With The Times, Practical...Milk-Rich...Delicious" in white on a blue background. The back cover has the index, "Here's Your Index For Using Carnation in the 7 Basic Food Groups," in white on a red border at the top. At the bottom is a red, white and blue logo, "U.S. Needs Us Strong. Eat the Basic 7 Every Day." The front end page has an introduction with a red, black and white can of Carnation Milk above "Even in these wartime days...your family can 'eat well'!" There are recipes for soups, meats, eggs, vegetables, sauces, fish and seafood, ice cream and desserts. There are two recipes for "Butter Stretchers" in response to "Butter's scarce...butter's costly...butter calls for precious red stamps! But butter is also a pleasant, delicate way to get the fat a sound diet calls for." At the top of each page, in black print on a blue background, is a comment about the recipes on that page ("Right here...let's talk about White Sauce...it's marvelous with Carnation!").
