Bio/About

Ben leads a team of librarians who are responsible for teaching information literacy workshops for students in a WRA first year writing, James Madison, or Integrative Studies course. He has presented nationally and internationally on topics such as creativity in instruction, incorporating technology into instruction, and becoming a critically reflective teacher. Ben has served on multiple ACRL IS and ALA LIRT committees, as well as LOEX Board President. He is currently Chair of the ACRL Instruction Section (IS). Prior to his current position, Ben was an Information Literacy Librarian at Michigan State University and an Instruction & Reference Librarian at Mars Hill College in Asheville, NC. Ben earned his MLIS at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and a MA in Education at Michigan State University. Prior to a career in librarianship, Ben worked as an elementary school teacher in Raleigh, NC and a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English as a Foreign Language in the Slovak Republic.
