Permanent Records and University Archives
The University Archives and Historical Collections (UAHC) was created from a resolution of the MSU Board of Trustees, as recorded in the minutes of November 21, 1969. UAHC maintains all permanent or historically significant records of Michigan State University, regardless of format.
Collections include topics such as the administration of MSU, campus buildings and grounds, student life, faculty research, curriculum, and academic colleges and departments. UAHC staff use MSU retention schedules to determine which records should be transferred to UAHC for preservation. This primarily consists of records designated as permanent, but there may be temporary records with historical significance to MSU as well. For more on permanent records or records designated as may having archival value, please see the Record Retention page.
Records Management and Retention
Materials that have a retention where they will eventually be destroyed fall under the purview of The Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance (OARC). OARC manages the approval of record destruction requests, storage of temporary records off-site, updating and maintaining the record retention schedules, providing training, and consulting with units individually on records management concerns they may have. If you have further questions related to temporary records or destruction requests, please see the Records Management and Retention page.
