Research Overview

University Archives & Historical Collections (UAHC) welcomes all researchers to use its collections. UAHC is the most comprehensive source for information on the history and culture of Michigan State University.

Public access to the University Archives & Historical Collections is provided in Conrad Hall, Room 101, by appointment only. Appointments must be scheduled at least five (5) business days in advance: this reflects the time required to page materials and schedule staff. Appointment times are limited to hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM ET. For assistance, please contact UAHC via email at archives@msu.edu or telephone at (517) 355-2330.

Visiting researchers are required to complete a registration form before accessing our materials. This form also includes instructions for using the reading room. The registration form must be completed prior to your visit. Upon your arrival, a valid photo identification card is required.

If you are looking for a place to stay while you are doing research at MSU refer to MSU's lodging page for a few options. UAHC does not provide any specific recommendations.

If you are unable to visit MSU to research and select historical material, please ask us about our hourly research fee. As staffing allows, UAHC can assist in the research and identification of specific archival materials. UAHC charges $25 per half hour increments ($50 per hour). There is a minimum of $25 for this service, which must be paid in advance. For more information about our fees, please visit the Reproduction webpage.

Michigan State University Libraries invites applications for Visiting Scholars Grants. The grants are intended to help scholars who live more than 100 miles from East Lansing whose research would benefit from on-site access to the rich primary source collections housed in MSU Libraries’ University Archives & Historical Collections and Stephen O. Murray and Keelung Hong Special Collections.
