Starts westward Atlantic hop
The Imperial Airways Short Empire flying boat, Caledonia, lifts off from the water. It was on its way from the Shannon River Estuary near Foynes, Ireland, to Botwood, Newfoundland. A Pam American S-42 flying boat was making the flight in the opposite direction.
