Second baby giant panda in captivity
Explorer Mrs. William H. (Ruth) Harkness Jr. holds Mei-Mei, a baby giant panda, next to Su-Lin, a grown giant panda. Mrs. Harkness captured Mei-Mei in 1936 and Su-Lin, in 1937. The two pandas live at Brookfield Zoo in Illinois. All three are in a cage. Su-lin sits on a wooden chair. Harkness wears work clothes and a jacket.
