Rudmani, G.. Royal Baker And Pastry Cook [1894]. The Alan and Shirley Brocker Sliker Collection, MSS 314, Special Collections, Michigan State University Libraries. Available at https://lib.msu.edu/sliker/object/11059
This item is in the public domain.
The front cover is a colorful illustration of a woman in a dress holding up a can of Royal Baking Powder and gesturing to a table laden with baked goods. She is framed by swirls of gold. The words "Royal Baker" are written above her in dark red on banners, and below is written, "And Pastry Cook." The 1894 copyright is written on the title page in the lower left corner. The back cover is decorated with same lavish gold swirls, this time surrounding a deep-red can of Royal Baking Powder, which itself features the same illustrated can of Royal Baking Powder, and within that drawing there is a smaller can as well, giving an effect of infinite cans of Royal Baking Powder. The bottom right of the back cover reads, "This book is dedicated to the lady patrons of The Royal Baking Powder." On the bottom left there is red stamped wording: "Compliments of Hamilton & Miller, Dealers in General Merchandise, Pecatonica, Ill." At the center bottom in very small letters it reads, "Coloritype Co. New York." The inside is a detailed recipe pamphlet in very small print with little space between recipes or text. The inside front cover is a letter of endorsement from Marion Harland. Other testimonials, contained in a center section, are from Maria Parloa and several chefs at famous hotels. The recipes cover all types of dishes - baked goods, meats, vegetables, soups, sauces, desserts, etc. - so not all recipes call for baking powder. There is a detailed three-page index.
