The front cover is bright orange. Beneath the title is an small drawing of a bee hive, and below that is written "Free To Everyone . . . New Every Year." The back cover is also orange with black print. A calendar for the year 1882 is printed at the top, followed by a space stamped with the seller's name: "W.F. Phillips & Co, Portland, Maine. Druggists." The inside is a collection of recipes organized by soups, entrees, pies, puddings, desserts, bread, cake, fancy dishes, recipes for invalids, and miscellaneous. Recipes include: Adirondack Corn Bread, "Portage Falls" Cake, New Year's Hickory Nut Cake and Southern Rice Pudding. There is an index to recipes from years 1879, 1880, and 1881 on the inside back page.
