The front cover of this pamphlet has a color drawing of an animal, front half elephant and back half tiger, sitting and holding a mug of Hires Rootbeer with his trunk. He is wearing a hat and coat with a fan and umbrella on the floor beside him. There is a bottle of Hires Rootbeer on a table on the left, a framed picture of a child on the wall and a yellow and black box of Hires Improved Root Beer! in the lower right corner. "Hires Puzzle Book" is in blue lettering outlined in black with "of Unnatural History" below in black. At the bottom left is "Do I Like it? Well -- !!!" The back cover has a color drawing of a little girl, a little boy and a white terrier dog sitting at a table enjoying glasses of root beer. In the lower right is a framed promotion of "Children love HIRES ROOTBEER. Give them all they want and note the difference in your doctor bills." The front end page offers $100 in free gold to over 100 children who send in the greatest number of names of animals, natural or unnatural that could be formed with the pamphlet's pages of half-bodied creatures. The back end page has "Link together -- Hires, Home and Health" which provides the benefits of drinking Hires Rootbeer any time of the year. At the bottom is the company's name and address: The Charles E. Hires Company, Malvern, Pa. Inside are drawings of the front or back half of animals on half pages which can be matched up to create strange combinations of an elephant, ostrich, lion, kangaroo, etc. Each page has a poetic reminder of the benefits of Hires Rootbeer for children.
