The front cover features a drawn color illustration of a Box of Arm & Hammer Church & Co's Soda New York which consists of the colors orange, red, white and black. The title, "Book of Valuable Receipts," is written in blue and green lettering at the top. At the bottom, the phrase "The above is a copy of our package" is written in blue lettering. The back cover is the same as the front. The front end page contains a calendar for the years 1896, 1897, and 1898. For the years 1896 and 1898, there are only three months listed. On pages two and three, there are black and white drawn illustrations of the Old Works Factory and the New Works Factory. The following inside pages contain informational pages such as the introduction, Take Notice, The Great Arm and Hammer Brand, and General Directions. Pages ten through twenty one entail various recipes that use Arm and Hammer Baking Soda in them. The categories the recipes fall under are bread, breakfast or tea, cakes, cookies, snaps, pastry, and puddings. Each recipe includes all the ingredients needed plus directions on how to prepare the dish. The last couple pages are also informational pages such as Facts for housekeepers, Things Well to Know, Useful Information for Farmers, and Rates of Postage. The back end page is titled "Arm and Hammer Brand Soda Saleratus Baths" and continues with a drawn illustration plus a promotional paragraph for Arm and Hammer Brand Soda.
