The front cover features a drawn black and white illustration of a child wearing a chef's hat and apron as she holds a mixing spoon and sauce pan. At the top, the title "Ransom's Family Receipt Book" is written in black lettering. At the bottom, the publisher information is listed. The back cover begins in the top left corner with a sketch of a child being given a spoonful of syrup and continues with a promotion for Ransom's Hive Syrup and Trask's Ointment. In the bottom right corner of the promotion, there is a sketch of a happy child holding a ball. At the bottom, the sold by information is stated in black lettering. The front end page contains the index for all the receipts found in the pamphlet plus a list of the retail prices for all the remedies available for purchase. The rest of the inside pages are dedicated to various receipts and testimonials for different diseases. The receipts fall under the categories of soups, vegetables, meats, fish, oysters, salads, breads, biscuits, puddings, pies, desserts, cookies, cakes, candies, pickles, preserves, All receipts entail the ingredients needed plus directions on how to prepare the dish. Some of the categories the testimonials fall under are chest and throat diseases, inflammation of the bowels, skin diseases, and hemorrhoids. The testimonials are written by individuals who have used a Ransom medicine to cure a sickness.
