When the library shut down in March, Jamie had already started doing research on using our 3D printers to help with PPE production in our community. She is very connected to local and national maker networks and was tracking the new files that were being created and adapted so that 3D printers could be enlisted to help out. By late March, she had already printer our first face shield frame, and she was working on printing comfort straps as well as experimenting with face shield plastic to meet the needs of our local hospitals. Jamie quickly trained students and staff in how to use the 3D printers so that we could make shields around the clock ever since then! Under her leadership, we’ve contributed more than 10,000 face shields to our community, including MSU Health teams, at least 25 hospitals across the state, more than 500 dentist offices, and several dozen food production facilities. Along the way she has experimented with the design to improve it and make it more efficient, she has advised other makers on best practices, and she has built and rebuilt our 3-D printers multiple times to keep the production going.  She has remained positive and determined throughout these challenging days, and has really made a difference both at MSU and in our community.
